Christchurch’s Michael Collins has one aim this weekend as the second round of the NZ Formula Ford competition gets underway at the Mike Pero Motorsport Park, Ruapuna just outside of Christchurch.  Also doubling as the fourth round of the Ace Hire South Island Formula Ford Series, Collins is totally focussed on winning and moving further up the leader board.

“I’m quite excited about the weekend,” commented Collins.  “My confidence is high after a great round at Teretonga and now we have a chance to gain more points at our home track.”

Having won the opening race of the national series at Timaru in early November, Collins then missed the chance to gain more points after crashing out of the round.  He currently sits ninth on the points but confident of significant improvement this weekend.

“It’s early days yet,” says team manager Mark Collins.  “Our focus is getting back up the points table in the national series as well as consolidating our position in the Ace Hire Series”

The team under took a major repair operation after the Timaru accident and with time against them made the grid for the third round of the Ace Hire Series in early December at Teretonga Park, Invercargill.  A win and two podiums from the round put them back into second place behind Marcus Armstrong who hasn’t entered this weekend’s round, choosing to focus on his Toyota Finance TR86 campaign.  Collins is now well placed to take the lead in the series.

Practice gets underway on Friday with qualifying and the first of three races on Saturday.  Sunday sees the remaining two races take place before the series heads to Invercargill for the third national round 23-25 January.
