Indianapolis, Ind. – Ryan Hunter-Reay survived a six-lap shootout to win the 98th edition of the Indianapolis 500, doing so before one of the largest crowds in years. RHR becomes the first American to win the race since Sam Hornish Jr. did in 2006. Five individuals were recognised for their outstanding contributions to motorsport in 2013-2014 at Saturday night’s annual MotorSport NZ (MSNZ) Awards dinner, held this year in Dunedin. Also included in the presentations was recognition of distinguished service, volunteering, membership and media excellence. “It’s my great privilege to honour these award winners,” said MotorSport New Zealand president Shayne Harris. “These members have made a huge contribution to our sport, both on the national and international stage.”. Evans 6th in GP2 race2 - 25th May 14
Local hero Stephane Richelmi led a processional GP2 sprint race in Monaco from start to finish on Saturday afternoon. The result was his first victory in the series and made it two from two for the DAMS team this weekend, following on from team-mate Jolyon Palmer's feature race win on Friday. Richelmi just held off Caterham's Rio Haryanto at the first corner, with Haryanto getting squeezed wide at Sainte Devote so Sergio Canamasas of Trident sneaked past him into second on the exit.. GARTH TANDER has chased down Erebus Motorsport young gun Jack LeBrocq to win a thrilling Australian GT 101 Classic at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. The former V8 Supercars champion, driving with Tony Quinn in an Aston Martin Vantage GT3, passed the LeBrocq / Richard Muscat Mercedes Benz two laps from the time-critical race finish to take a thrilling victory in the inaugural running of Australia’s newest GT enduro. It capped off a bumper day of action that saw bruising Porsche Carrera Cup and Radical Australia Cup races and the field set for the Great Southern Four hour to be run on Sunday afternoon in a big third round of the 2014 Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals. . EVANS PIPPED TO MAIDEN GP2 WIN - 24th May 14
Mitch Evans narrowly missed out on securing his maiden GP2 race win after being pipped to victory by Jolyon Palmer in a dramatic feature race at Monaco. The New Zealander led for the opening 10 laps but as his super-soft tyres went off Palmer pounced leaving Evans to battle for a podium finish. A red flag and two Safety Car periods failed to disrupt the 19-year-old as he fended off Felipe Nasr in the final laps to come home in second spot for his first podium of the season.. Read more >>

Rally Wairarapa Celebrates 40 Years - 22nd May 14
2014 sees Rally Wairarapa and Wairarapa Car Club celebrating 40 years of special stage motorsport in the Wairarapa and Tararua regions.
1974 saw 80 cars compete in the Ngaumu Clubmans Rally, which was won, by the then up and coming, Rod Millen. Since then there have been a variety of events, from club status with 20 cars, through to hosting rounds of the national rally championship with as many as 120 entries.. Mostert marks main game anniversary - 19th May 14
One year on from his elevation to main game V8 Supercars, Chaz Mostert has nabbed his second race win in V8 Supercars, and first as a factory team driver with Pepsi Max Crew FPR. He became the 10th different winner so far this season, crossing the line first in the 200km dash at the Perth 400. Mostert was on the podium at last event in New Zealand, while teammate Mark Winterbottom stood on the top step – but this time it was the young gun leading home the Championship leaders, with Craig Lowndes and Winterbottom safely behind at Barbagallo Raceway.. The top two drivers competing in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) drivers’ championship are tied on equal points, despite being penalised by event officials at the finish line, following a challenging weekend at the second round held at New Caledonia. Jan Kopecký, the current European Rally Champion from Czech Republic driving a Team MRF Skoda Fabia S2000, finished 6 minutes and 12 seconds ahead of team-mate Gaurav Gill, who encountered troubles late on day one..
